About Pawsdemy
Pawsdemy started with a cat named Shadow. Teaching Shadow a few tricks, and celebrating when one finally clicked after many tries, showed us that training isnβt a chore: itβs a game you play together, built on patience, rewards and understanding why an animal does what it does. If a cat can learn that way, so can any dog.
That idea grew into Pawsdemy: a free resource for dog owners, with practical, reward-based training guides, honest breed profiles and simple browser tools that help you understand your dog better.
What youβll find here
- Training and behavior guides: step-by-step plans for barking, biting, jumping, chewing, digging, whining, potty training and more.
- Breed guides: temperament, exercise, grooming, health and costs, including the downsides.
- Health and care basics: grooming, shedding, paws and nails, safe foods, and when to see a vet.
- Free tools: an online dog whistle and dog clicker, a sound desensitization player and calming music for dogs, calculators for dog age, food portions, puppy weight and chocolate toxicity, a βCan my dog eat this?β food checker, plus a name generator, a behavior analysis tool and a training glossary. All free, no sign-up.
How we create our content
- Reward-based training only. We follow the position of leading veterinary behavior organizations, such as the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), that reward-based methods are the most effective and humane. We donβt recommend punishment, shock collars or βalphaβ methods.
- Answer the real question. Every guide starts with a short, direct answer, then goes into detail.
- Health first. Where a behavior can have a medical cause, we say so and explain when to see a vet.
- Sources. We base our guides on veterinary and behavior guidance, published research and kennel club breed standards, and we link to sources where it helps.
- Kept up to date. We update articles when we learn something new or find a mistake. The date at the top of each article shows the last update.
- Honest tools. Our tools explain how they work and their limits. For example, our dog whistle shows the real maximum frequency your device can play.
- AI-assisted, with human review. We use AI tools to help research and draft our guides and build our tools. Weβre reviewing and fact-checking every article; each one says at the bottom whether its review is complete or still in progress. We take full editorial responsibility for what we publish.
- Corrections welcome. If you spot a mistake, tell us (see Contact below) and weβll fix it quickly.
